Q Drum and Sandton Rotary Help Itsotseng |
|
Itsotseng is a squatter camp located near Lanseria, on the northern perimeters of Johannesburg in South Africa. It holds approximately 20 000 dwellers. Most of these inhabitants live in shacks made from wood, tin, plastic or any other available material. Itsotseng has hundreds of HIV infected children, many of whom are physically abused. With the intention of creating a better life for these children, Rotary International's Sandton chapter has taken it upon themselves to build a community centre where the children can receive a nutritious meal, appropriate health care and get clean water from the new borehole. Together with Q Drum (Pty) Ltd, the residents of Itsotseng received 85 drums in which to safely transport water back to their homes. Click here to view images. |

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise - "An innovative way to transport water" We've all seen pictures of women and children in developing countries lugging heavy containers of water. Transporting water often takes an inordinate amount of time and energy, and unhygienic containers can pose serious health hazards.

Raising Malawi with Madonna |
|
2008 - Q Drum was recently involved in supplying drums to Somebody Cares, an organisation working with Madonna's charity: Raising Malawi. The drums were given to a group of Malawian children.

2008 - The Q Drum won the prestigious Well-Tech Award in Milan for Technology Innovation in the category "Quality of Life".
